The existing (first phase) Refinery of Shazand Arak with a capacity of 150,000 BPD constructed and put on stream on 1991 was upgraded to meet the international products specification and reduce heavy ends.

The main target was:

-- To increase capacity to 250,000 BPD
-- Reduce fuel oil down to 8 percent
-- Increase gasoline by 11000 cubic meter/ day
-- Upgrade products to meet Euro 5 specifications

To meet the above targets the major units of the project were:

-- Sulfur Recovery
-- Utilities
-- Storage
-- Offsite
-- Buildings

This project has received National Golden Management of Mega Project and Silver International Managerial of Mega Projects.
